Getting the circle rolling
ICLS Pre-conference Workshop on June 23, 2014

CFP - Background - Program - Instructions

General Instructions (for all participants):

Our expectation for this conference is that everyone - no matter what level of experience or role in the workshop - takes an active part by bringing themselves fully into the community. By that we mean sharing your thoughts and ideas, asking questions, and getting to know others. As such, everyone’s role is critically important!

To help us get to know one another before the workshop begins, please do the following:

  1. Introduce yourself

    • Add a link to a website about yourself (if one exists), and write a few sentences in the participants page about yourself in relation to learning communities.

  2. Contribute readings

  3. Prepare yourself

Please have all this posted to the site, so that others in the community can see it, by June 12, 2014. If you have questions or need technical assistance, feel free to e-mail us at lc@edtech.haifa.ac.il.

For LC presenters (to complete in addition to the general instructions for all participants):

If you are a LC presenter in our conference (see participants list if you are not sure), please make sure to introduce yourself to the community like all other participants. Because of your key role as a LC presenter, in addition you will have a special role within the workshop.

For session 2 of the workshop, LC presenters will be paired with another LC presented, and seated at a roundtable with roughly 4 other participants. After a quick round of introductions, each of the LC presenters will present a visual of their learning community to the group for 5-7 minutes, each. Through discussion based on the visuals, the goal of this session is for all the group members to explore the main themes of the two different learning communities presented at their roundtable.

What is a visual?

  1. A visual describes the main theme(s) of your learning community. You can be creative, but make sure to include (on the side) a few bullet points with the key characteristics (alongside your name and institution) that somehow represents your learning community (see example). Your visual can be 1 slide on a PPT, a JPEG, or a digital photograph of a physical artifact that you create. Please upload your visual to a slide on this presentation, or e-mail it to lc@edtech.haifa.ac.il (and we will post it for you).

  2. Prepare a one page abstract that describes your learning community. Upload this to our shared abstracts folder.

  3. OPTIONAL: Upload an article that describes your learning community for others in our community to read.

Please have all this posted to the site, so that others in the community can see it, by June 12, 2014. If you have questions or need technical assistance, feel free to e-mail us at lc@edtech.haifa.ac.il.
